Chia is nutrionally power packed. It is rich in omega 3 fatty acids (the fats protect
against inflammation and heart disease), fiber, antioxidants, and other important nutrients, including calcium,
phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, copper, niacin, and zinc.
The ancient Mayans regarded chia as a staple crop for its high nutritional content.
It was the most important food staple behind corn and beans. It is the vegetable source with the
highest omega-3 content.
This snack can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. Add some to a glass of juice. The seeds absorb some
of the liguid and it becomes a slightly thicker treat. You can sprinkle ground or whole chia on your
salad, yogurt, or chicken to add some healthy fats. Grind the seeds and you can mix with flour when
baking.
