What is Natural Health?

This term which is central to our lifestyle, does not have one universally accepted definition. Its meaning changes over time and across cultures but generally we can say Natural Health is holisctic, recognizing the mind/body dichotomy and our relationship with the natural environment.

Health is a very complex state describing the proper functioning of an almost incomprehensible living system. The immune system is directly responsible for our health; it is the body's own defense system. It has evolved over time to adapt to our environment and the ever-changing external and internal threats. The main factors that influence the overall health of our immune system are diet, exercise and stress. For our understanding, the health of our immune system IS THE SAME AS the health of our bodies.

Natural health seeks to heal the body and keep it in a uncontaminated and pure condition through our everyday decisions. To nourish our bodies, it is imperative that we maintain a healthy diet. This seems obvious right? However there is some confusion as to what constitutes a healthy diet. What foods we choose, how we prepare them and most importantly how they are processed and grown, all influence how healthy our diet is. The saying "We are what we eat" is 100% true.

Exercising is obviously beneficial for so many reasons and on so many levels. Controlling the stress in our lives ensures we do not expose our body to undue mental and physical strain. Lastly some cultures believe the spirit/soul (the metaphysical part of our existence) also effects our "health." This has yet to be scientifically proven however there is a large segment of the world population that believes in its influence in our lives. We cannot dismiss a connection ourselves.
